Death In Holy Orders

UK-TV, 8.30pm

From playing Judge John Deed on Wednesday night, Martin Shaw makes an interesting contrast as Scotland Yard's Commander Adam Dalgleish, the thoughtful hero from crime writer P.D. James's series of bestselling novels. Here Dalgleish returns to St Anselm's, an isolated theological college on a stretch of the East Anglian coast, where he spent part of his student days. Already threatened with closure, St Anselm's is now embroiled in the strange death of one of its most promising students, found smothered by a fall of sand, and the Yard has undertaken to re-examine a coroner's verdict of accidental death. There'll be more bodies before Dalgliesh is done.
